Summary
The Story starts out with fourteen-year-old Yusuke Urameshi; a delinquent kid that attends Sarayashki Junior High. Yusuke doesn't do very well in school, and infact he ditches class whenever possible, and gets into many fights. Although his attitude in life isn't all his fault. Yusuke happens to live in a broken home where his mother is an alcoholic, and his dad is nowhere to be found.
One day while on his way home, he attempts to rescue a young child from an oncoming car, and is killed in the process. Yusuke, now dead, meets Botan, the "spirit messenger" who sends him to see the Prince of the spirit world - an infant looking guy who happens to be alot older than Yusuke. Upon talking with the prince, Yusuke is offered a second chance at life for his valiant efforts and the ultimate sacrifice. But there's a catch, Yusuke must become a Spirit Detective in order to stay in the living world; Botan is also sort of Yusuke's partner. Besides the responsibilities of being a Spirit Detective, Yusuke gets to use "spirit energy", in which he uses an attack called Spirit Gun. His friend has a similar attack which weilds a Sword made of spirit energy.
Basically, as a Spirit Detective, it's Yusuke's job to hunt down demons and such who steal or commit crimes. After his first assignment, leaving him weary, he receives his second assigment which is to not allow a disguised demon to obtain the knowledge of a great Martial Art's expert named Genkai. After a bunch of tests of each fighters will, stamina, and strength, he finds the demon and defeats it. The series continues to follow Yusuke on his journey to defeat and catch evil demons. He is also later joined by Hiei and Kurama.
